I think I've figured out why I dislike language arts classes. I was recommending Lolita to Sailor, and I remembered later I read somewhere that the book was about Europe's love affair with the new world.
....Doesn't that just kill it? It was beautiful the way is was, that kills something! Damn you whoever that was!

I dunno, I'm a sort of strange person who thinks characters are people, and you're a filthy bastard for using them to make a point. Especially such a boring one.

It's not that I'm mad because it's hurting their feelings or anything silly like that.. But human beings are probably more beautiful and interesting than whatever it is. I don't know, I'm not against ideas in lit. I just... Like characters, they're always the best part. And over analysis sucks the fun out of books I like.

FTW Nabokov said Lolita was a product of his love affair with the English language, and he wrote his stories to get them out of his head. Most of my favorite authors share a similar attitude.
